For the past few months, Free Geek has been closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we are re-opening our doors! But, during these challenging times, we are going to be making changes to how we operate to ensure the safety of our customers, employees, and volunteers.
For Customers, Free Geek will be open in a limited capacity, allowing customers to Buy Online/Pickup In-Store. Customers will pick up their new devices one at a time from our location. More information on purchases can be found on our brand new online store, and we will email you with the details on your pickup.
For Donors, if you’d like to donate a limited selection of items, we have more details on our e-Waste Recycling page on our recycling process and what items we are accepting at this time. This is to keep our backed-up inventory lower and decrease contact with our staff, as we are currently not accepting volunteers. As we return to normalcy, we may open up on what we’re willing to accept, so keep an eye on our newsletters or subscribe to our mailing lists to stay in the loop.
For Our Benevolent Volunteers, we will unfortunately not be re-opening volunteering opportunities at this time to keep you safe, but we urge you to stay connected so that when we are open again, we can welcome you back home at Free Geek at a time where it’s safer for us to work together again. If you need any assistance during this time, or need information regarding your previous hours, we can do our best by having you contact us on our Contact page. You should also keep up-to-date with our news page, as we will post an update once we are ready to re-open.
Free Geek will continue to operate this way until it is safe and ethical to re-open our store to the public. During this time, we are going to need financial support and donations from the community, and we encourage anyone who is not capable at this time to spread the word of what Free Geek does. More information about Free Geek’s mission can be found here.
We have heard the need for Free Geek to be re-opened, and we are opening our doors while maintaining safety in our local community. We intend to continue to counteract the Digital Divide, as we always have, but in a safe and positive way. The Free Geek Team, it’s board, and the volunteers that have shaped this place for the last decade, are all in your debt, and we thank you for your continued support.
