We wipe your information
We take privacy very seriously at Free Geek. Any and all storage devices donated to us are securely and privately wiped by Staff. If a disk is not readable, we will physically destroy it. If you have a device with a non-removeable disk, we will destroy it unless we can wipe it clean. More details are here.

We take (most) broken stuff
A computer, half of a computer, a part, speakers, video game consoles, accessories, audio equipment, broken cables, and more- we accept in any condition! Broken printers, TVs, monitors, and CRTs we sadly cannot accept right now.

No charge for e-waste Recycling
Free Geek does not charge for donating items with us. If your donated item is not on our ‘accepted list,’ or is difficult/dangerous to recycle, we may request a monetary donation, but do not require it. We reserve the right to refuse items not on our accepted list.

Donations are tax-deductible
Whether you were on time or filed an extension this year, next year you can deduct your donations to Free Geek from you return! Just ask for a reciept when you donate.

Community Partner: Abdo

Abdo staff drops off laptops with Free Geek.

Abdo is an accounting firm with multiple offices in Minnesota and Arizona. For the past two years, we've been partnering with them to give their old tech a second home, and even providing a place for employees to volunteer! Last week, their team donated a large batch of quality laptops. They will be refurbished into dozens of great computers for the Free Geek store. These laptops will be ready for their second life, giving Free Geek an opportunity to further our mission. Check out what Abdo has to say below. Thank you guys!!!!

“We pride ourselves on providing our employee’s with a cutting edge employee experience as well as giving back to our community. This has led us to proudly partner with Free Geek to provide a second lease on life for our securely decommissioned gear, as well as responsibly recycle our electronic waste. It has also been a pleasure to leverage our firms’ volunteer time off program to volunteer at Free Geek and see firsthand the important work they do in action.”

FGTC out on the Town

Free Geek staff members at a local synagogue’s Earth Stewardship event

Over the past few weeks, we’ve tabled at different events and conventions around the Twin Cities and beyond.

MGC: Midwest Gaming Classic

A handful of our staff and volunteers attended MGC, one of the largest gaming conventions in the Midwest!

We had a blast running a satellite thrift store, visiting with folks at our table, and hosting recycling demos. We even captured some photos in true Free Geek fashion- on a floppy disc!

The included photos were taken on a restored Sony Mavica, pictured below.

The van is packed and ready for Milwaukee! Can’t forget snacks of course.

All set up! The Free Geek table was bustling all weekend long. We loved talking to everyone!
